Discovery of Caecilian

One day in the monsoon I and my cousin sister Srushti were going towards Donmad for bringing some groceries. While talking and walking by that rain drenched road, I noticed some pipe like thing was fallen on the road from far away. Since I saw that I was very curious to find out what it actually was. So, we got closer to it and saw, and to our wonder it wasn’t any pipe at all…! It was some kind of black ,slinky, slimy, creature which was exactly looking like a snake or somewhat like a earth worm. I hadn’t seen such queer thing in my life before.
But unfortunately… while crossing the road it had got crushed under the wheel of its fate! And we could see was all its innards which had very badly squeezed out of its body. We felt very pity for that poor creature. And I just ran towards my home hurriedly to tell baba what we had just seen. I went to Baba and tried to explain him, how that strange creature was. Listning to my story even baba got very curious to get know about it. He showered lots of questions on me and when I depicted he guessed it might be a Caecilian. Caecilians are the creatures belong to amphibians family. But people often misunderstand them as snake by their appearance, and often kill them thinking they would harm them. But it’s completely untrue. We can add Caecilian to earthworms list because they both belong in same family but they  never can be a snake. Snakes and ambhibians are totally different from each other. Caecilians can never harm anyone by biting or in any other ways. In fact they are very helpful for farmers. They live on nutrients present in the soil, which helps to enriches soil’s fertility.
Then ,without wasting time he told us to go there and bring it. So I and Dashrath Bhayya (Morajkar) went there hurriedly to bring that creature. Luckily when we reached that spot where we had spotted that crushed creature,  just near it we found just like that one more creature. But thank god! It was alive and was trying to cross the road again. But we grabbed it carefully to put it in our bag and then carried it home.
I excitedly showed it to baba. When baba saw it he was just sure, that it is nothing than a Caecilian. But still to make it confirmed. He clicked it’s photos and written news . He even sent these photos to some researchers.
And the very next day we were just surprised to find  out it was India’s largest Cecilian. The news of this research was very ecstatic for us. After that many prominent scientists like Dr. Varadgiri and two British scientists specially had come to meet us and to see that creatures habitats in our village. Then taking me with them, they dug and got some more  species of Cecilians. And I got many things to learn with them.
I never had thought, for that little creature such a great personalities would come to meet me.
Anyways, it was very unique and awesome experience of my life. Which I can never forget!…
