ABOUT

Vivekanand Environment Awareness Brigade (VEAB) is a non-profit organization based at Keri, Sattari- Goa, dedicated towards environmental education and wildlife conservation. Registered on October 04, 2001 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, VEAB has gained repute as a leading force in the field of environment conservation. Primarily comprising of youth from various walks of life, the organization is a symbol of transformation and channelization of the energy in the youth in the right direction.
Environment education being the focus of the majority of the activities, it is actively involved in the documentation of various facets of the biological, cultural and traditional diversity of Goa as well as reaching out to the young and the old with the treasure-trove called biodiversity. Its members are involved in Wildlife rescue throughout the state.

Our Inspiration


Rajendra Pandurang Kerkar, based in Ghoteli of Keri-Sattari, is a dedicated environmentalist
working since the period of more than a quarter century protecting the biodiversity rich Western Ghats area of Goa and the forested regions bordering Maharashtra and Karnataka facing numerous odds and challenges. He has been awarded with state, National and International awards in recognition of the yeoman service rendered by him.
Working on National Board of Wildlife of India and also on State Board of Wildlife, Goa State Environment Protection Council, World Wide Fund for Nature India, he has been instrumental with the likeminded personalities in notifying the Mhadei and Netravali as the Wildlife Sanctuaries. As the member of North Goa Private Forest Identifying Committee and the founder of Keri based Vivekanand Environment Awareness Brigade [VEAB) working persistently to protect forest, ecology and environment of Goa. He has presented numerous articles, research papers on different aspects of Goa. His books published in Marathi and English languages have been acclaimed by the readers and scholars.
He has written and researched the National Award winning Film Documentary in the category of Wildlife and Environment for the year 2007 entitled “DEVRAI” of Goa Doordarshan. He has transformed the movement of saving the major lifeline of Goa Mhadei (Mandovi) into statewide movement and zealously working to generate awareness to protect all 11 rivers and their tributaries by writing in the newspapers in local Marathi, Konkani as well as in English and also delivering lectures, street plays, mobile exhibition, slide shows. He has written a well researched paper on the social and environmental impact of the mining on Goa and Konkan for the Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel constituted by Government of India. The legendary wildlife Jane Goodall from USA presented him a certificate for the notable work done in the field of environment conservation and environmental education in 2006.
